GAINESVILLE — The Florida Gators’ return to College World Series for the first time since 2018 well could hinge on getting past their rival Miami Hurricanes during the NCAA Tournament Gainesville Regional.
The 15h-seeded Gators will be the top seed in the four-team regional featuring Miami, South Alabama and USF. UF (38-20) is scheduled to face USF (28-27) at noon Friday. Miami (32-19) will then square off with South Alabama (33-20) at 5 p.m. at Florida Ballpark.
The Gators opened the season ranked No. 1, but set the tone for a substandard season by christening their new $65 million home field in February with two losses in three games to Miami.
