Gators SS Richie Martin selected by Oakland A's in first round of MLB Draft

Florida shortstop Richie Martin became the fourth Gator player under coach Kevin O'Sullivan to be selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft when he was selected 20th overall by the Oakland A's Monday night.

To say the week leading up to the draft had been difficult for Martin is a little bit of an understatement.

Martin, a Bloomingdale High alum, has had to battle the understandable urge to contemplate his future, while keeping his focus on his job as the Florida Gators’ starting shortstop. Martin is batting .292 and leads Florida with 59 runs and 20 stolen bases.
