Passed over during the first two days of the draft, Perine was confident he would hear his name on Day 3, tweeting the word, “Patience.”
Perine’s patience soon was rewarded. The New York Jets grabbed Perine with 120th overall selection — the 14th pick of the day.
Perine, who grew up outside of Mobile, was passed over by Auburn and Alabama, choosing UF and sticking with his decision after Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban made an 11th-hour pitch.
Once he arrived in Gainesville, Perine would have to share the football for three seasons, but began to establish himself late in the 2018 due to his ability as running and receiving threat.
