The Gators basketball team is riding a wave of momentum back to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in three seasons. For that, Florida fans can thank the Gators defense, which put on a truly absurd display of dominance in No. 4 seed UF’s 65-39 win over No. 5 seed Virginia on Saturday in Orlando.
Never before had the Gators held a team under 40 points in March Madness.
At one point, the Gators defense held the Cavaliers without a point for a full eight minutes and 23 seconds of game time. With 5:38 left in the first half, UF led 19-17.
