Florida football: Spurrier hopes UF-UGA game stays in Jacksonville

Former Florida football coach Steve Spurrier thinks the Florida-Georgia rivalry game should stay right where it is.

He said so much to radio host and ESPN contributor Paul Finebaum this week.

“I can understand what Georgia is saying now,” Spurrier said. “In 1990, when I got here my first year, the Gators wanted to move that game.”

Prior to Spurrier’s arrival in Gainesville, Georgia had won 15 of the last 20 meetings in Jacksonville and Spurrier said that he was told Florida can’t beat Georgia there.

“I said ‘wait a minute, we take a bus ride over there … it’s in a stadium called the Gator Bowl … it’s on Florida soil … they have to fly down and travel a long way,'” Spurrier said.
