University of Florida officials have announced the full backing of a $2.2 billion capital improvement plan that includes a new Florida athletics dormitory.
The overall capital improvement plan is expected to be implemented in the next five to 10 years, according to a report in the Gainesville Sun.
The plan includes a complete overhaul of the campus’ existing housing, which is expected to cost between $410 million and $485 million
That will include a 500-bed dorm specifically for the athletics department.
“We’re trying to recruit the best and brightest students … part of that is providing great living situations,” university Chief Operating Officer Charlie Lane, told the Sun.
