Three Hits: Kyle Marman throws gem in FAU’s 6-1 win over George Washington

BOCA RATON — After teammate Jake Miednik began the Florida Atlantic Owls’ 2018 season with a gem Friday night, Kyle Marman struck out seven hitters in six shutout innings in a 6-1 FAU victory over George Washington on Saturday.

Making only his third collegiate start, Marman allowed four hits in six clean innings before handing the ball over to the bullpen after 79 pitches. Despite allowing eight hits, FAU (2-0) pitching kept George Washington (0-2) away from the scoreboard until the ninth inning, when reliever Weston Clemente allowed a pinch-hit RBI single to catcher Bryant Holtzapple.

“Marman was really good; he set the tone,” Owls coach John McCormack said.
