Defending the triple-option is so unique in college football that Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin has described it “like playing a different sport.”
In his previous head coaching stops at Tennessee and USC, Kiffin only faced the offense once: in the 2012 Sun Bowl against Georgia Tech. Kiffin’s Trojans lost the game 21-7 in a game that capped a disappointing season. USC began the season as the preseason No. 1 team in the country and end with a 7-6 record.
USC’s defense gave up 369 total yards but forced three turnovers.
