Slower game results in faster gains for FAU running back Greg Howell

The education of Florida Atlantic running back Greg "Buddy" Howell has begun to pay dividends.

A self-described "student of the game," Howell has developed the vision to recognize running lanes. He has discerned what defensive fronts will do and how his offensive line will react to them. He can slow down the game in his mind to speed it up with his feet.

During FAU's season-opening 38-30 win over Southern Illinois on Saturday, Howell rushed for 128 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns. His first touch of the season ended in a career-long 48-yard score.

"The reminder for him during the game was listen, 'They're not all going to be like that.
