There were times Florida Atlantic quarterback Jason Driskel mildly celebrated about playing so much last season as a redshirt freshman.
They were mostly brief because Driskel has never been one for short-term success. He's always thinking down the line, so don't expect him to get comfortable even though he is the favorite to win the starting job in the fall.
He refuses to allow himself to ease up.
"There are no guarantees," Driskel said. "No spot is guaranteed. You can't stop getting better. The day you do that is the day you get passed up."
And that describes how Driskel is approaching his competition with highly touted freshman Daniel Parr, who redshirted last year.
