The mango-flavored Powerade disappeared from Florida Atlantic's practice fields last week. It had been there before the Owls beat UTEP, but was replaced by blue Powerade in the week leading up to FAU's loss to Old Dominion.
Players asked about its abandonment, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair relayed: "Where's the mango? Where's the mango?" In the practices this week before a season-ending visit to Middle Tennessee State on Saturday night, it returned, though its homecoming only mattered to certain players.
"Some people are really superstitious," Al-Shaair said.
Al-Shaair told the story of the mango Powerade not as a lesson on flavor, but as an example of how differently players viewed what happens during a season.
