A week after Florida Atlantic struggled against Southern Illinois' passing attack, the Owls were gashed on the ground in a loss to Miami on Saturday.
The Owls gave up 279 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns against the Hurricanes, surrendering 7.2 yards per carry. A pair of 'Canes (Mark Walton and Joe Yearby) topped 100 yards.
Defensive coordinator Roc Bellantoni said the Owls "fit the runs properly" in the first half, but either failed to make tackles or fill gaps in the second half. Miami had 98 rushing yards in the first half; 181, in the second half.
