The reminders are both pronounced and subtle for Florida Atlantic’s football team. There’s the outline of the state of Florida on one side of its helmet. There’s the state flag decal behind the left ear-hole. There are the coaches’ families on the team plane.
They’re reminders of home for the Owls, even as FAU staged an upset bid before falling to No. 9 Wisconsin 31-14 on Saturday afternoon. With Hurricane Irma arriving in South Florida, the Owls escaped to sunny Madison, Wis., for a game against the Badgers, and will now make it their home away from home.
