Lightning delays conclusion of FAU's season opener against Navy

South Florida was so excited for Lane Kiffin’s debut at Florida Atlantic that it didn’t want it to end.

Kiffin and FAU suffered through three lightning delays at FAU Stadium on Friday night during their season opener against Navy. The Owls and Midshipmen played three quarters uninterrupted until weather intervened.

At 10:31 p.m., with Navy leading 35-13 entering the fourth quarter, lightning struck around FAU Stadium. It caused a 59-minute delay with the Owls facing a fourth down in their own territory.

When the delay ended, Taravis “Pico” Harrison dropped a pass from FAU quarterback Daniel Parr, turning the ball over on downs.
