Last-gasp reception ruled incomplete as FAU falls to Charlotte, 28-23, for fifth straight loss

Prior to its 28-23 defeat to Charlotte on Sunday afternoon, Florida Atlantic armed its arsenal of creativity with a bevy of inventive strategies designed to end a four-game losing streak.

There was the successful surprise onside kick that stole a possession and the quarterback shuffle that shoved backup Daniel Parr into the game. There was the bizarre play that placed punter Dalton Schomp under center and the touchdown run that used defensive end Trey Hendrickson as a blocker. Even on a pivotal fourth-quarter two-point conversion, the Owls asked quarterback Jason Driskel to haul in a pass in the end zone.
