Florida Atlantic has had its share of impact freshmen defenders in recent years.
There’s linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, safeties Jalen Young and Ocie Rose, who all had breakout seasons in 2015. Now, freshman safety Zyon Gilbert is attempting to join the list.
Gilbert started his first game last week against Buffalo. He didn’t disappoint, recording a career-high 15 tackles.
“He’s going to be playing for a long time, I think, at the next level,” Kiffin said. “I know that’s early to say after four games, but usually, you can tell.”
Gilbert, who isn’t allowed to speak to the media because of Kiffin’s policy, has played in every game this season.
