While the Florida Atlantic defense has struggled through the first month of the season, it has done one thing consistently: force turnovers.
The Owls are one of four Conference USA teams to cause a turnover in all five games this season, including two interceptions in its 33-31 loss to Florida International on Saturday night.
Sophomore safety Jalen Young's interception at the end of the second quarter set up a FAU field goal, while sophomore linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown to begin the second half.
"Those are signs of good things, but we have a lot that we need to get better at on defense before we feel good about where we're at on that side of the ball," Owls coach Charlie Partridge said.
