Florida Atlantic shortstop CJ Chatham was named the preseason Conference USA player of the year on Wednesday.
The award was voted on by the league coaches. A junior out of American Heritage, Chatham hit .335 with 44 RBI last year. He also had a 19-game hitting streak while leading the Owls to the NCAA Regionals.
"To be named preseason player of the year is quite an honor for CJ and the program," FAU coach John McCormack said. "It is nice to be recognized by the other coaches in the league in such a fashion.
