BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic senior left-hander Jake Miednik should have been celebrating his first opening day start on Friday morning, hours before toeing the mound for an eventual Owls win over George Washington.
Instead, Miednik joined his family — many of whom, including Jake, have graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — in attending a funeral for one of the victims in Wednesday’s mass shooting in Parkland.
“I’d like to say that everyone during that incident, everyone’s in my heart and prayers,” Miednik said after throwing six shutout innings in a 3-0 victory Friday night.
