BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic tight end D’Anfernee McGriff knew he had to get into better playing shape if he wanted to see more playing time in 2018. After dropping 24 pounds, McGriff’s coaches came to him with an idea: converting the bruising 6’1, 215 pound junior to running back.
“(It) feels a little bit more natural,” said McGriff, who played running back in high school and ran a Wildcat option at Iowa Western C.C. in 2016. “It was kind of like a mutual agreement between me, (running backs coach Kevin Smith), and the entire offense. … It was kind of more how do we get me more involved?
