Kevin Abraham covered the 90 feet between home plate and first base in 16 steps and a slide. The route was familiar to Abraham throughout his life, but foreign to him in the last year, when he battled Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
The dive into first base capped the road back to baseball for Abraham, playing for the Owls for the first time since he was declared cancer-free last year. The infield single knocked in FAU’s second run in its eventual 16-5 win over Monmouth in the baseball season opener.
The single was part of a tumultuous evening for Abraham.
