FAU men’s basketball coach Dusty May talks new NCAA rule changes, impact of agents on teams

BOCA RATON — Perhaps the most notable rule changes in recent NCAA basketball history have little to no effect on Dusty May’s Florida Atlantic Owls.

In what many believe will be a precursor to the controversial “one-and-done” rule which prevents players from immediately entering the NBA Draft out of high school, the NCAA introduced major changes to the sport last week. Elite prospects, as identified by USA Basketball, will be allowed to sign with an agent as of July 1st of their senior year and college players can hire an agent after any season if they request an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee, though the relationship “must be terminated when the student enrolls in or returns to college.
