Florida Atlantic punter Dalton Schomp was named Conference USA's Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year this season after leading the country in punting in 2015. Through three games this season, he ranks 72nd in the nation.
But the drop in yardage (from 48.0 in 2015 to 39.7 in 2016) can be attributed, in part, to different utilization of Schomp this season. The Owls have deployed Schomp in all punting situations instead of withholding him from pooch punt scenarios like they did in 2015.
Schomp has attempted six punts this season from midfield or the opponent's side of the field.
