De'Andre Johnson brings different dimension to FAU QB battle

Florida Atlantic quarterback De’Andre Johnson can run. Just don’t label him a running quarterback.

“I’ve always been a pocket-passer,” Johnson said. “I’ve just been blessed to have the ability to escape the pocket if I needed to.”

Johnson rushed for nearly 1,000 yards last season at East Mississippi Community College before transferring to FAU for the spring semester. He previously enrolled at Florida State in 2015, but was kicked off the team after video showed him punching a woman in the face at a Tallahassee bar.

Johnson is now battling incumbent Jason Driskel for the Owls’ starting job, and his athleticism may give him a leg up.
