BOCA RATON — Before Devin Singletary was ever an All-American, Heisman Trophy contender, he was a wide-eyed 18-year-old kid stepping onto the Oxley Center fields from American Heritage-Delray.
Then-Florida Atlantic senior Jay Warren knew, from the second Singletary made his first juke and cut outside in August 2016, that the local product was bound for stardom.
“We were going through workouts and he was talking to me and we were going through the playbook — me, (Singletary), and (then-junior running back) Buddy Howell,” Warren, an Owls running back from 2013-16, told The Post by phone. “I knew from watching his high school highlights that he had that different type of mentality and coming into FAU, I knew he would definitely help us out in some way.
