The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup announced on Tuesday that Villarreal CF has joined the 2019 Gordon Jago Super Group. The 40th-anniversary tournament will be the Dallas Cup debut for the storied La Liga side. No Spanish side has won the Super Group since Real Madrid's back-to-back titles in 1993 and 1994.
Villarreal, affectionately known as El Submarino Amarillo (The Yellow Submarine), has enjoyed recent success in Spain's top flight at the senior and youth levels. The senior side has placed in the top five of the La Liga table the past three seasons, while Villarreal's youth team is currently in first place of Group VII of the 2018-2019 División de Honor Juvenil, the top level of Spain's youth soccer system.
