FRISCO -- The process was quick.
FIFA sent Jesse Gonzalez the forms, he read and signed them, sent them in, waited for Mexico to sign off as well and just like that, it was done. The FC Dallas goalkeeper became a United States international.
Or, more accurately, Gonzalez committed to become a United States international. He's eligible for the Gold Cup, which the United States begins Saturday with a group match against Panama, and still could be called in between the group stage and the knockout stage since he was on the provisional roster.
While filing the one-time switch with FIFA, which Gonzalez was eligible for because he was born in the United States, was a snap, making the choice to do so was much harder.
