San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick popped in the injury report this week and is now on season-ending injured reserve with a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. He will undergo surgery to repair the injury. This could be a borderline disaster for the team. Kaepernick's salary next season is guaranteed for injury only as long as the 49ers cut him before April 1. However, if he can't pass a physical, the 49ers could once again be stuck with him for another year. It is far from a lock he'll be able to pass a physical. A similar clause is the same reason the Washington Redskins won't activate Robert Griffin III.
