The Detroit Lions have come out and stated running back Ameer Abdullah will be their RB1 this season.
“Ameer’s our guy. Theo Riddick has his role, and then the other guys, they got to kind of fit where they fit and that’s how we’ll go,” said running back coach David Walker.
Abdullah only played in two games in 2016, before a season-ending injury to his foot. In the two games, he had 23 touches for 158 total yards (6.9 avg) and 1 touchdown. Walker believes Abdullah can have a 1,000 yard season. Walker stated that, for Abdullah to obtain the 1,000-yard mark, Abdullah will need 250 touches.
