David Unsworth felt his Everton Under-23s warranted more than a point after being held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at Staplewood on Monday evening.
Oumar Niasse’s sixth goal of the Premier League 2 season - an emphatic half volley - was cancelled out less than a minute later by Saints striker Olufela Olomola.
The young Blues dominated proceedings throughout but failed to convert their pressure into a winning goal against a resilient Southampton defence.
Despite frustration at the timing and manner of the hosts’ equaliser, coach Unsworth was pleased to see his team extend their lead at the top of the table to two points.
