'They didn't think it was the right move for them': Duncan Ferguson explains why Everton 'TURNED DOWN' the chance to sign a '15 or 16-year-old' Erling Haaland after his father Alf-Inge brought him to Finch Farm for a trial

Former Everton centre forward Duncan Ferguson has tried to explain why the club turned down the chance to sign Erling Haaland as a teenager.

Haaland arrived in England this summer to much fanfare from Borussia Dortmund and has lived up to his billing as one of the continent's most lethal forward players, scoring 22 goals in his first 16 games for Manchester City.

Sportsmail revealed last month how Everton baulked at the figure they were quoted for a teenage Haaland - but how history could have been very different had he made the move to Merseyside.
