Ross Barkley set to be offered new long-term deal by Everton

Everton are ready to tie Ross Barkley down to a new long-term deal as they begin the second phase of Ronald Koeman’s redevelopment.

The midfielder, who suffered the huge disappointment of being omitted from Sam Allardyce’s first England squad, has two years remaining on his current contract.

But Everton, who have been in constant dialogue with Barkley’s advisors, see him as having a key role to play in their future and are looking to reward the progress he has made and his standing within the squad.

Koeman arrived at Goodison Park at the end of June and his immediate priority was to recruit a raft of new players – Everton made six additions to their group before the window closed.
