Everton manager Ronald Koeman has challenged Ross Barkley to prove he is worthy of a place in the team.
Barkley was dropped for Sunday's 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United and appeared to be visibly upset when he did not come off the bench in the match.
The England international has cut a peripheral figure over the last 12 months having lost the spark which made him such a threat. He was an unused player at Euro 2016 and has not been selected in an England squad since.
"He did not play last weekend and that is the competition we have in the squad,'' Koeman said.
