Ronald Koeman insists a new deal for Ross Barkley is 'not a priority' for Everton ahead of Merseyside derby

Ronald Koeman has admitted it is 'not a priority' to address a new contract for Ross Barkley after Everton secured the futures of three key players.

Leighton Baines and Gareth Barry have signed deals which will effectively see them finish their top flight careers at Goodison Park – they were due to be free agents next summer – while young defender Mason Holgate’s progress has been rewarded with a new long-term contract.

As things stand, though, there has been no move from Everton to sit down with Barkley. He has endured a difficult start to life under Koeman and, with 18 months remaining on his current terms, the midfielder is prepared to wait.
