Ross Barkley’s tweet was touching in its sincerity, the shock of Sid Benson’s passing implicit in his words, “Only spoke to him last night.” Sid was 73 and had suffered through a brief illness. His sudden death yesterday has robbed the Club and everyone who knew and loved him of a man for whom being an Evertonian represented one of the ultimate accolades that life could possibly bestow.
