Everton Ladies rounded off the group stage of the Friendship Competition in Gibraltar with a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in what was an impressive display against the reigning Spanish champions.
A 77th-minute winner proved the difference as the Blue Girls now turn their attention to Friday’s semi-final in this pre-season competition.
The opening stages of the game against Atletico were cagey, with both teams passing the ball well but unable to find a telling pass in the final third. Everton were confident and assured in possession, more than happy to keep the ball when needed and knock it forward when necessary, with the central defensive three of Gabby George, Georgia Brougham and Siri Worm all displaying excellent composure.
