Jordan Pickford insists winning a medal for England like Gordon Banks 'would be the pinnacle'... with Everton goalkeeper on the verge of breaking 1966 World Cup winner's record for consecutive clean sheets to start a major tournament

Jordan Pickford is happy to sacrifice personal history in order to become only the second England goalkeeper to play in a trophy-winning team.

Everton's No1 emulated Gordon Banks on Tuesday by starting a major tournament with four consecutive clean sheets. Given the way Pickford is performing, there is an excellent chance he will surpass Banks — who set the record in 1966 — in Saturday's quarter-final with Ukraine.

Pickford is priding himself on the miserly standards England have set but says his opportunity to enter the record books would not have been possible without the efforts of the men in front of him — they have kept nine shutouts in their last 10 fixtures.
