Manager Ronald Koeman says Phil Jagielka will not be leaving Everton in the January transfer window, insisting the England international has “an important role to play” for the Blues this season.
With the impressive form of Ashley Williams, Ramiro Funes Mori and Mason Holgate, who have forged a formidable partnership at the heart of the Blues’ defence - keeping three clean sheets in four Premier League matches - Jagielka has been on the bench in recent weeks.
But Koeman says the 34-year-old centre-back remains a key part of his plans as he eyes a push for the top six.
