The first match under Ronald Koeman saw Everton and Tottenham contest an entertaining 1-1 draw. It was quite literally a game of two halves, with the home team dominating the first and the visitors controlling the second.

This was all of the things the last two seasons were not as Everton pressed high and well until tiredness told as the match wore on. Aggressive without possession and purposeful with it, the hosts had attacking threat to go with much-improved defensive organisation.
