Gary Neville has described Old Trafford’s omission as a host venue for the UK and Ireland’s Euro 2028 bid as ‘shameful’ and ‘the final straw’ for the Glazers.
It was announced yesterday that despite being the largest domestic stadium in the UK, Manchester United’s iconic home had been snubbed but neighbours City’s Etihad Stadium had made the cut.
Two of the 10 grounds chosen ahead of Old Trafford, Everton’s Bramley-Moore Dock and Casement Park in Belfast, have not even been built yet.
And Neville, who played 602 times for United and won 85 caps for England, believes that the club’s owners have committed a ‘dereliction of duty’, urging them to sell up.
