Gana Stars In Senegal Win Over Poland

Everton’s Idrissa Gana Gueye played a pivotal role in helping Senegal kick-start their World Cup campaign with victory over Poland.

The Blues midfielder saw his first half effort deflect in off defender Thiago Cionek to hand the Lions of Teranga the advantage.

As well as having a hand in opening goal, Gana also led the way with a team-high 52 passes with a completion rate of 88.5%.

M’Baye Niang doubled Senegal’s lead when he capitalised on a poor pass from Grzegorz Krychowiak to make it 2-0 on the hour mark.

Despite Krychowiak atoning for his earlier error with an 86th minute header, Aliou Cisse’s side held on for a vital win in Group H.
