The Blues defender picked up a booking during his 90 minutes, as his side succumbed to goals from Phillipe Coutinho, Neymar and Paulinho.
Elsewhere, Enner Valencia was not involved as he met up with Ecuador late, with his wife expecting a baby. In his absence, Ecuador lost out 2-1 to Uruguay in Montevideo.
A number of young Blues were also in action, including Tom Davies who skippered England Under-19s to a 2-0 victory over Luxembourg.
