Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood: Salomon Rondon scores twice in the second half as Frank Lampard's men are made to graft for their victory and a place in the quarter-final of the FA Cup

The ball nestled in the Gwladys Street net but Frank Lampard’s demeanour remained as it had done all night. His arms were folded, his face was blank and he barely moved.

Salomon Rondon had broken the resistance of plucky Boreham Wood in the 56th minute but there was no glimmer of happiness for Lampard, who was expecting so much more from an assignment that should have been a confidence booster.

Lampard’s Everton career began in an FA Cup tie against Brentford, a day that was full of goals and enjoyment; here was another FA Cup tie but the visit of Boreham Wood clearly failed to stir the same emotions in the manager.
