Chelsea want to sign Everton youngster Anthony Gordon and have opened talks over a proposed £40million deal.
The Blues are after a right-sided player to provide genuine competition to Reece James and see Gordon as a top candidate.
Chelsea have indicated an initial willingness to pay £40m for the 21-year-old - but Everton are believed to value Gordon at at least £50m. Discussions are set to continue this week.
Agreeing personal terms with Gordon will not pose a problem for Chelsea, it is understood.
