Carlo Ancelotti indicted in Spain on suspicion of avoiding €1M in taxes during his time as Real Madrid coach

Carlo Ancelotti has been indicted by Spanish authorities amid allegations of a seven-figure tax fraud.

The Everton manager has been accused by prosecutors of alleged incidents in 2014 and 2015, when manager of Real Madrid, of fraud totalling £1million. According to reports in Spain, Ancelotti did not declare earnings from image rights or other endorsements.

In recent years Spain has pursued some of the country’s biggest football stars, including Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who played for Ancelotti at Real. Messi paid a £2m fine in 2016 in his own tax wrangle and received a 21-month jail term.
