Brighton 0-0 Everton: Graham Potter and Carlo Ancelotti share the spoils on the south coast as visitors miss chance to climb above Spurs and hosts move seven points clear of relegation zone

Not much good to anyone, that. Brighton are still close to one dotted line, Everton made up only tiny ground on another, and for once an empty stadium felt like a small mercy.

It really was dross, not even a storm of VAR rage to drop into the teacup. There were four shots on target, apparently, but none that warranted memory space.

So it was one of those. One where the content was pretty abject but the context was really quite important and relevant to matters at both ends of the table.
