Ronald Koeman has welcomed the return to fitness of Matthew Pennington.
The young defender suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-season Dresden Cup tournament out in Germany but has now returned to full training.
Koeman explained that the next step for Pennington will be a spell gaining match sharpness with the Under-23s.
“We spoke and said that when he is back fit he would start with the Under-23s,” he told evertontv. “There it is a lower level with a lower intensity.
“When he goes through that process and is ready, he will be back involved with the first team.
