Harry Redknapp is keen on taking Aaron Lennon on loan from Everton.
Lennon has returned to training after a difficult spell last season which saw him admitted to hospital when he was detained under the Mental Health Act.
The 30-year-old has looked sharp in training and is eager to play.
Redknapp, who hopes to agree a deal for Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick over the next 24 hours, knows Lennon well and wants to see if the former Tottenham winger will drop to the Championship to boost their promotion prospects.
