Aaron Lennon receives messages of support from the world of sport after Everton and England winger is detained under Mental Health Act

Figures from the world of sport have sent their well wishes to Aaron Lennon after the Everton winger was detained under the Mental Health Act after concerns for his welfare.

The 30-year-old was taken to hospital on Sunday to be assessed after police were called to help him near a busy motorway in Salford.

Everton and the Professional Footballers' Association have pledged their support to Lennon while messages of goodwill have also been flooding in for the winger.

Former PFA chairman Clarke Carlisle - who had a season at Leeds with Lennon early in his career, has suffered from mental health issues himself and attempted suicide in 2014 - wrote on Twitter: 'Love and blessings to my old team-mate Aaron Lennon.
