Hockey World: St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock prefers one-year contracts

EDMONTON — Ken Hitchcock has a new one-year contract to coach the St. Louis Blues, but he doesn’t think for a minute he’s a lame-duck coach even if people are saying the players may look at him that way, especially since GM Doug Armstrong had talked to Hitchcock’s very good friend from their Olympic coaching days, Mike Babcock.

“I’ve had one-year contracts for three years in a row,” said the former United Cycle skate-sharpener Hitchcock, the oldest NHL coach at 63 with the fourth-most wins in history and who was kept abreast of the interest Babcock by Armstrong.
